James Richärd, AIA and Kelly Bauer, FIIDA are the founding partners and design principals of richard + bauer architecture, a studio based, integrated architectural and interiors practice focusing on innovative work in the public realm.

In their 11 year history, they have garnered over fifty local, regional, national and international design awards, and have been recognized as an “Emerging Voice of 2001” from the Architectural League of New York, one of the “New Vanguard” by Architectural Record in 2002 and "Designers of the year" by Contract Magazine in 2007.

The firms work promotes no style; each building is built upon a conceptual framework, metaphorically derived from the program and the response to the site and context. It is fundamental that each building speak to its purpose and internal processes in simple terms, yet aspire to an intrinsic symbolic concept. It is a basic tenant that architecture must raise the level of expectation and wonder, focusing on the experiential rather than form.
